After months and months of anticipation across the year, the boys’ big moment as ring bearers had finally come. It was a picture perfect day at the top of Aspen mountain. The sky was huge and blue. The sun was shining. The Aspen trees were quaking. The birds were singing. Carla and Uncle H were about to get married! Everyone was in a great mood, everyone couldn’t wait to see the two of them profess their vows to each other in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. Everyone that is… except Brooks and Carter.
With parenting you win some and you lose some. And that’s just the way it goes. Though they did look adorable, their mood was anything but adorable. Maybe it was the altitude or too many adults or not enough napping, but the hours pre and post-ceremony were not their best…to say the least. Still, let’s remember the positive! Even though Carter started screaming and lying on the floor the moment before it was his time to walk down the aisle, he did calm down when I scooped him up and walked him down the aisle on my hip. On the way, he got lots of smiles and “how cutes!” from the adoring audience. And Brooks! Brooks surprised us all, pulled it together, and did, in fact, make it down the aisle - smiling the whole way!
I had bribed him with sweets so the second he took his seat he exclaimed “Chocolate covered raisins!!!” for all to hear. And even though I needed to leave 5 minutes into the ceremony because Carter would not stay quiet and head butted me in the nose so hard I thought it might start bleeding, he kept himself busy on the rocks at the back of the outdoor reception site long enough that I could still hear a lot of the pastor’s words.
Carla looked so beautiful and Hunter so handsome! The wedding was absolutely gorgeous and a night we will remember forever. Once the boys were safely down the mountain with the babysitter, Mom and Dad had a great time dancing with everyone on the dance floor. And as you can see from this post, we managed to get some beautiful family photographs.
Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Powell! Thanks for letting us be part of your special day.
