It was another week of rip roaring, fun-filled toddler mania at this year’s Pohozie beach trip in Figure Eight, NC. Though all children were another year older, it’s safe to say they were not necessarily another year wiser. Just more hilarious. And more crazy. And more work. But more adorable too, of course.
Highlights of this year’s trip for the kids were another sandy scavenger hunt, an expedition down the beach where we discovered a million tidal pools just waiting to be splashed in, a walk through Fidler crap-infested dune grass, baking a cake for Will’s birthday, communal outdoor showers, and repeated ice bucket challenges with the hose and sand pails.
Highlights of this year’s trip for the adults were those moments after the kids all went to sleep when we were finally able to catch up on the back porch over some delicious dinners and copious amounts of wine. It was also super exciting when Dave almost burned the house down grilling our steaks. On the flip side, the oven actually worked for Allen’s famous low country boil. Don’t tell the kids, but we also baked and ate an entire batch of slice and bake chocolate chip cookies and did not leave any for them. An added bonus this year: a night OUT to dinner! The babysitters gave us a great report – so we should really consider doing it 10x next trip.
All in all, another amazing vacation with amazing friends. With as busy as our schedules all are, I’m proud of us for prioritizing and making this trip happen for three years running. Bryson and I are so lucky to have people in our lives that we love enough to want to spend a whole week with! Cheers to old friends and summer beach time.
