High Altitude Adventures

Over the past several summers, I've been lucky enough to visit Aspen with the Powells. It's rightfully one of the most beautiful places on the planet. The sky, the views, the warm days, the cool nights, the complete absence of humidity, even the air you breathe feels like it's a cut above the the rest of the world.

Though this was Brooks' third visit, it was the first one where I got to experience it through his eyes. Being a kid in Aspen is like being a pig in slop. Everywhere you look there is something fun. A stream to put your toes in, a park to explore, a trail to follow, or a bridge to scurry over. It's safe to say he's fallen in love with the place the same way we all have.

Carter too enjoyed his visit. Having just gotten the hang of his walking (oh right, never did a blog entry on that... he started walking right before 13 months!), he felt empowered to conquer all terrain and could not be stopped. Unless, of course, to eat. His other favorite activity. Thank goodness we can still restrain him in the high chair!

We all enjoyed spending time with Gigi and Gramps, Hunter and Carla, and Snickers too. So much love in one house. It was cozy and wonderful being together.

Our favorite memories are taking the gondola up Aspen Mountain, visiting the ponies Polly and Thor at Owl Creek Ranch, music and ice cream in town after dinner, the Aspen Music Festival orchestra concert, the amazing 4th of July parade, and fireworks from our deck over the mountains.

Until next year, we'll just have to look at our pictures and hope a little "rocky mountain high" comes back to us.
